June 17, 2019 (Investorideas.com Newswire) Do you enjoy a bit of a flutter now and then? Of course you do, because it's an enjoyable way to spend your downtime and potentially earn yourself some extra spending money in the process. Gambling, providing you are sensible and know your limits, is an extremely pleasurable pastime which is why you'll find more and more online casinos setting up shop every single day. But just how lucrative is the gambling and online gambling in general? Well, that, amongst other things, is what we're going to be looking at today. Here's a look at some interesting industry statistics published by the UK Gambling Commission. Those of you with a keen interest in gambling, online casinos, and betting in general will find that article particularly insightful. Here are some interesting findings.
Gambling is a multi-billion-pound industry - As you know, gambling is a popular pastime. Every single day, people spend money by betting in the hopes of striking it rich and winning big. Needless to say, we spend A LOT of money on gambling here in the UK, but did you know how much? Well, from October 2017 to September 2018, the total GGY (Gross Gambling Yield) was a whopping £14.5 Billion! This is an astonishing amount of money, though it is actually 0.4% lower than what was spent between April 2017 and March 2018.
Gambling creates jobs - There are of course negative connotations associated with gambling, online casinos, and the gambling industry in general, but there are also many, many positives. According to recently published statistics by the UK gambling commission, the gambling industry is responsible for 106,670 people being employed in the United Kingdom. This was true as of September 2018.
Bingo is still a hit - When we think of gambling and casinos, we think of games like Blackjack, Poker, Roulette, slot machines, and the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. What people often overlook however, is the fact that bingo in the UK is still a massive hit and is still a form of gambling. In the UK there are 650 physical bingo premises as of September 2018. This is down 1.1% since March 2018.
There aren't as many physical casinos as you may have thought - Now, we know that the UK isn't the largest country in the world, but even so, many people will be surprised to hear that as of September 2018, there are 152 physical bricks and mortar casinos in the UK. This number is actually up since March 2018 by 1. That's right, between March and September of last year, one more brand-new casino was built in the UK. This does not however, reflect the number of online casinos that UK residents can play.
Gaming machines are on the up - Another interesting fact about gambling in the UK is the fact that gaming machines are on the up. As of September 2018, there are 183, 813 gaming machines located in the United Kingdom. This number is up by 2.4% since March 2018. These figures exclude those which only require a local authority permit.
