Super Bowl betting advice

January 24, 2022 (Investorideas.com Newswire) The NFL has become one of the most popular leagues in the world when it comes to betting, and the jewel in its crown is of course the Super Bowl.

This annual game determines which American football team - across both the AFC and NFC Championships - is the best in the league. It is the pinnacle of the sport and draws tens of millions of viewers every year.

For this reason, it's also one of the most top events in the entire sporting calendar in terms of how many bets are wagered on its outcome. All major bookmakers, such as DraftKings, offer a range of Super Bowl betting odds.

Futures

There are many different ways to bet on the Super Bowl and if you're organised then a futures bet could land you some hefty returns.

It's also a simple format; each team in the NFL is given odds relevant to their perceived chances of lifting the Lombardi trophy. You choose a team, place money on them, and if they win it then you collect your winnings.

A futures bet on the Super Bowl can be placed at any point prior to the Conference championship games. The odds for each team will change throughout the season depending on how they are performing.

If you place your futures bet during the playoffs, there will only be odds available for those teams still in the competition. Futures bets tend to have much longer odds than other types because you're not just betting on one game; you're gambling that a particular team will make it through the regular season, playoffs and then the Super Bowl itself.

Moneyline

This is the most basic bet you can place on the Super Bowl; you are simply picking the winner of the game and placing money on them. There will be a favorite and an underdog, and you can tell which is which by the odds offered.

The favorite will have a "-" symbol in front of their odds. For example, if a team is offered at odds of -150, this would mean you need to stake $150 in order to win $100.

The underdog will have a "+" symbol preceding their odds, so you might find a team given odds of +120. This signifies that you would win $120 if you were to bet $100 on that team.

Point spread

The points spread is one of the most popular bets when it comes to the NFL and, in particular, the Super Bowl. Here, you are betting on the margin of victory in the game.

Again, there will be a favorite and an underdog. The bookmaker will then set the points spread - for the Super Bowl, three is a common spread. Taking this as an example, the favorite will have "-3" next to their name, while the underdog will have "+3". Both teams will then also have odds next to this, which work in the same way as explained above.

This means that, if you bet on the favorite, they have to win by four or more points in order for your bet to be successful. If you punt on the underdog, they have to either win the game outright or lose by only one or two points for your bet to come in.

Over/Under

If you would rather not bet on the actual outcome of the Super Bowl game, you could opt for an over/under bet, where you wager on the total amount of points scored by both teams combined during the match.

The bookmaker will set a total amount of points and then offer odds on whether there will be over or under that number in the game. For example, the total might be set at 58 points - for an 'over' bet to win, 59 or more points need to be scored and for an 'under' to win then 57 points or less need to be scored.

Live betting

Most major bookmakers now offer live odds in-game while the Super Bowl is actually being played. Rather than being fixed, these odds fluctuate according to what is happening in the game, so if you're looking to use this option then you need to be on top of the action.

Many of the bets listed above - moneyline, over/under, points spread etc. - will be available with live odds. This can be a great way of taking advantage of fluctuating odds if you can correctly predict a shift in momentum.

Super Bowl betting

The Super Bowl game always provides drama and excitement, making it one of the best sporting events to bet on. Even before the two teams playing in the game are decided, there are ways to bet on the game.

Once those two franchises are locked in, your options for betting open up even more and you can now even place live bets while the game is being played.
